Christian Fuchs: Has This Leicester Star Flown Under the Radar This Season?

Leicester City’s high-flying team has been glittered with numerous outstanding performances this term.

The Foxes, who have lost just two league games all season, have undoubtedly been this year’s surprise package – as Claudio Ranieri’s side sit in second place, just two points behind Arsenal after 20 league games.

Obviously, the two star players who have stood out are the influential Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, however, the likes of left-back Christian Fuchs has been as equally important to the Foxes’ cause.

Bargain masterstroke

The Austrian defender made the switch to the King Power Stadium on a free from German Bundesliga outfit Schalke in the summer. The 29-year-old has gone on to become one of Leicester’s most consistent and reliable performers this season.

The Austria international, who has stacked up 72 appearances for his national side, has struck up an excellent understanding next to former Chelsea defender Robert Huth and reliable skipper Wes Morgan.

The Foxes defence have conceded just 25 league goals this term, and they owe a lot to Fuchs and co. for keeping the number so low. Leicester’s mean defence has paved the way for the likes of Vardy and Mahrez to get the goals that have fired the club up to the top of the league.

Little signs of letting up

Despite failing to score and taking just two points from a possible nine in their last three games, Ranieri’s overachieving Foxes are still showing little signs of letting up.

They now face two tough away games on the bounce, as Leicester travel to White Hart Lane to face fellow high-flyers Tottenham Hotspur, then a trip to face bottom club Aston Villa.

Whatever happens come the end of the season, nothing can be taken away from Leicester City’s remarkable campaign. The likes of Christian Fuchs have been superb for the club this term, and the Foxes supporters will be hoping they can keep up their tremendous upswing in fortunes for the remainder of the season.
