Adama Traore: Is the Barca prodigy ready for the Premier League?

In the last two days, reports in Spain have suggested that Barcelona starlet Adama Traore is bound for the Premier League with Liverpool being the most likely destination.

Further reports in England have backed up these claims although alternative sources have also linked the right-winger with a move to Stoke City or Aston Villa.

While his final destination still remains unclear, it is almost certain that the player will move due to his limited chances of securing first-team football at the Camp Nou.

So what can Premier League fans expect to see when he finally arrives?

A Product of the La Masia academy

Troare is yet another product of the famed Barcelona La Masia academy; but like many recent graduates, he looks set to be sold on for a profit (perhaps with an option to buy back at a later date).

With so many superstars in their team, it is becoming increasingly difficult for players from the youth ranks to establish themselves in the first team. As a result, Traore looks set to follow the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Gerard Deulofeu, Patricio Gabarrón and Carles Planas out of the Blaugrana exit door.

While many players that leave Barca simply do not make the grade, Traore has always been considered one of the brighter prospects to emerge during the last few years.

As a result, his situation has been monitored by many high profile teams including Liverpool and Manchester United in England.

Lowdown on Traore

The 19-year-old from Malian descent was born and bred in Catalonia and joined the Barcelona academy at just eight years of age. By the age of 17, he had been selected for the B team where he went on to make more than 60 appearances in the Segunda Division.

During this time he was also selected for the senior squad and made four appearances, scoring one goal. However, he has failed to establish himself as a regular squad member.

His natural position is on the right flank, although he could be classed as more of an attacking wide player than an orthodox right-winger. During his time at youth and B team level, he also featured on the left-hand side of a front three where he looked equally comfortable.

As can be expected from a product of La Masia, he is technically very gifted and is a capable of turning full-backs inside out with his dribbling ability and pace.

In 2013-14, Traore was one of the key players in the Catalan club’s UEFA Youth League triumph.

Interested clubs and which club he suits the most

His style of play would be well-suited to Liverpool but with the player desperate for first-team football, a move to Aston Villa or Stoke might actually make more sense.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has been a long-time admirer of the player and feels that he would slot perfectly into their new system of play. The Potters made their first attempt to lure the player back in January, but will now have to fend off interest from their Premier League rivals in order to secure his signature.

It is expected that his future will be determined in the next seven days with Barcelona hoping to achieve a sale price in the region of €10m.

Filipe Luis: Can the Chelsea flop be a success on his return to Atletico Madrid?

Just a year after Atletico Madrid sold Filipe Luis to Chelsea for a figure close to €20m, the left-back is on his way back to the Spanish club. The return leg of the deal is believed to be costing the team from Madrid around €16m although exact details have yet to be confirmed.

The Brazilian failed to establish himself as a regular first-team at Stamford Bridge having made just nine starting appearances in the league. The player claims that he does not regret the move and will leave with a Premier League winner’s medal to add to the Spanish League winner’s medal that he claimed the year before. However, it is clear that playing a secondary role to in-form Cesar Azpilicueta was not part of the plan when he moved to London.

Having upset many of the Atleti faithful by leaving the title-winning side last summer, he now faces the task of redeeming himself in front of a notoriously vocal audience. But having previously spent four seasons at the club, the move certainly feels like a homecoming.

Luis first signed for the Rojiblancos in 2010 when he moved from Deportivo La Coruna for a €12m fee. At the time, the Madrid team had just won the Europa League but were languishing in mid-table in the domestic campaign. Meanwhile, the player had recently been linked with a move to Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona. As a result, the signing was considered as something of a coup by the club’s fan base and the Spanish media.

At 29-years-of-age, Felipe Luis is still in his prime and his arrival could prompt the departure of fellow countryman Guilherme Siqueira. The defender was recruited from Benfica last summer as a direct replacement for Luis and soon established himself in the left-back role ahead of versatile loan signing Cristian Ansaldi.

However, Diego Simeone is known to be a big admirer of the returnee and it is likely that he will be his preferred choice ahead of Siqueira barring any injury or obvious lack of form.

Going back to a team where you enjoyed previous success does not always work out, but in the case of Filipe Luis, it feels like a natural step. He always felt at home in Madrid, but was keen to challenge himself outside of Spain. While his spell at Chelsea may not have worked out the way he had hoped, he always remained professional and will certainly have gained from the experience.

As for winning back the support of the fans - that’s easy. He just needs to pulls on the red and white shirt and let his football do the talking.

James Rodriguez: Is Real Madrid’s big money signing the Real Deal?

Much was expected of James Rodriguez when he arrived at Real Madrid with an €80 m price tag last summer. Having made a huge impression playing for his country at the World Cup, the Colombian was under pressure to hit the ground running in Spain.

He also had the unenviable task of filling the void left by the departed Angel Di Maria - a player who had been voted man-of-the-match in the Champions League final just a couple of months earlier. So how did the youngster perform in his first season? And what will the future hold?

Had it not been for the signing of Luis Suarez by rivals Barcelona, the transfer of Rodriguez to Madrid would have been the biggest story of last summer. The fact that the fee paid for Suarez eclipsed that of the former Monaco man probably helped to divert some of the attention away from the player. However, it was inevitable that his first season would bring the intense level of scrutiny that is part and parcel of life in the Spanish capital.

Despite the pressure and the constant comparisons to his peers, the 24-year-old delivered a first season that exceeded everyone’s expectations. In a year that the club seemed to be suffering from a post-décima dip, the young Colombian’s performance was one of the biggest positives.

A total of 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions is a return that few players in his position can boast. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema scored more goals for Los Blancos and only the Portuguese superstar provided more assists. When you consider that the debutant also missed a couple of months of the season with a fractured foot and had to adapt to playing in a much deeper role than he was used to, the stats look even more impressive.

While the Spanish media and a large proportion of the fan base directed their negativity towards Gareth Bale and Iker Casillas, and analysed every aspect of Ronaldo’s body language, the new kid on the block quietly went about his business. His only really disappointing performance came in the Champions League semi-final against Juventus but in his defence, he was not the only player to under-perform that night.

Clearly a player with natural confidence, James looks set to be a massive part of Real Madrid’s future. He has the flair and skill that is seen as a compulsory requirement by the demanding Bernabeu crowd, but he also has the team ethic and work-rate that should impress new coach and renowned task master Rafa Benitez.

With five years of a six-year contract still remaining, James has the potential to be an important figure at the club. He has stiff competition in the midfield area with the likes of Spanish international Isco vying for the same role but as things stand, he should be the first midfield name on the team sheet. Much will depend on how Benitez intends to use him and whether the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Napoli boss will adopt a strict rotation policy.

If James can equal or exceed his performance of last season, he will cement his position as a genuine world class player.

Mat Ryan: Australia’s star keeper should prove to be a hit at Valencia

Name: Mat Ryan

Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 23

Country: Australia

Club: Valencia

Earlier this month Australia goalkeeper Mat Ryan signed a six-year deal with Spanish club Valencia, a move that capped two outstanding years in the goalkeeper’s blossoming career.

After winning an A-League title with the Central Coast Mariners in 2013 – the first in the club’s history - Ryan signed for Club Brugge and proved an instant hit in Belgium.

Winning the Belgian Cup and named Belgium Pro League Goalkeeper of the Year in successive seasons, Ryan’s performances were enough to convince Valencia manager Nuno Espirito Santo to spend €7 million on the Socceroo.

“We want to eventually win the La Liga and win the Champions League, and I’ll be doing my best to help the team achieve this,” Ryan said after making the move to Spain.

A confident, mobile and technically gifted goalkeeper, Ryan has an idiosyncratic style that should be well suited to La Liga.

The player described himself as a “sweeper keeper” who is “athletic [and] quick along the ground”. A diminutive figure, Ryan compensates for his lack of size with agility and an uncanny ability to read play and act almost as a spare defender at times.

At the age of 23, he has been anointed as the successor to legendary Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, beating far more experienced challengers to the No.1 jersey.

Ryan played in all three of his country’s games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, conceding nine goals as the Socceroos promptly exited the tournament.

But while his individual performance was slightly disappointing, the experience should prove invaluable for a player who has enjoyed rapid and promising development.

The future looks brighter still for the young shot-stopper, with regular Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves set for a lengthy absence through injury.

With his natural aggressiveness and tenacity tempered by his comfort on the ball and distribution skills, Ryan seems an excellent fit for a La Liga club and will be hoping for an immediate chance to showcase his skills and adapt to life at the Mestalla.

Pedro: Can the Barcelona prodigy cut it in the Premier League?

With talk of a mutually-agreed reduction in his release cause and interest from the Premier League, it looks like the former jewel of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy is set to leave the club. The Canary Island-born player is rumoured to be a target of Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal but does he have what it takes to make it in the Premier League?

Pedro’s quality cannot be denied; the player featured regularly during the most successful period in his current club’s history and also helped his national team to unprecedented glory. However, he has never quite established himself as the world class player that former coach Pep Guardiola had hoped he would become.

He has skill, pace, great passing ability and an eye for goal. He is renowned at the club for his discipline, work ethic and commitment to the greater cause of the team, and he has never rocked the boat despite being drafted in and out of the first XI during the last few years.

When he was at his best, there were few players in the world as consistent as the 28-year-old; but the player that cost nothing has somehow become a bit-part player at Barcelona. During the 2009-10 La Liga campaign, the club had just recruited Zlatan Ibrahimovic and still had Thierry Henry on the books, but Pedro managed to force his way into the first-team and made 22 starts.

The following year, the Swede and the Frenchman were both shipped out and Pedro had perhaps the best season of his career, epitomised by his goal in the 3-1 Champions League final victory against Manchester United.

Along with Lionel Messi and David Villa, Pedro formed a deadly triumvirate that at times looked unplayable. However, the young prodigy lacked the marketability of his strike partners and Barcelona always seemed to be looking for a superstar replacement. In 2011, the highly-rated youngster Alexis Sanchez arrived from Udinese but ultimately failed to live up to the hype. Two years later, the enigmatic Neymar joined the Blaugrana from Santos in Brazil and then last summer, controversial Uruguayan Luis Suarez was signed from Liverpool in a bumper deal.

With an attacking force now made up of world class marketable talent and with Arda Turan due to arrive from Atletico Madrid; it seems that Pedro will have no choice, but to leave if he has any desire to be anything other than a bench-warmer.

If Pedro does make his way to the Premier League, there is no doubt that he still has the ability to terrorise defences with his tricky wing play. He knows how to press better than most forward players and ever since he scored his debut goal against Almeria in October 2009; he has never lost his eye for goal.

Pedro is a genuine talent who has unfortunately become the victim of circumstance at a club that in recent times has become pre-occupied with buying superstars rather than developing their own graduates.

Whoever lands his signature, will have one hell of a player on their hands.

Dennis Praet: Why the Anderlecht star is on the radar of Arsenal and Aston Villa

The fee of Christian Benteke’s move to Liverpool may have raised eyebrows, but the £32.5 million is reasonable value for the 42 goals he scored from 88 appearances over three years spent in the Premier League.

It represents a £25 million profit for Aston Villa who signed the striker from Racing Genk of the Jupiler Pro League, who also sold Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne to Chelsea. While Courtois is now installed as the long-term goalkeeper for the champions, De Bruyne has been a revelation since moving to Wolfsburg.

The success of Belgium’s exports in Europe’s main leagues, where Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini and Simon Mignolet have all enjoyed success in England since moving directly from their home country, while Eden Hazard, Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Mirallas and Thomas Vermaelen have all impressed after arriving in the Premier League via other destinations.

It is therefore no surprise to see more English clubs turn to the Belgian Pro League for talent, with Newcastle adding Chancel Mbemba to their signing of Aleksander Mitrovic from Anderlecht who have also had to place a price tag on midfielder Dennis Praet with Aston Villa and Everton both interested.

So who is Praet and can he be the latest product of Belgium’s domestic set-up to come good in the Premier League?

Background

It was with Genk where Praet started his career, joining the club’s academy at the age of 8 and quickly establishing himself as one of their most promising young players. After a series of impressive displays at youth tournaments, the likes of Arsenal, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Barcelona became interested, with Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger even taking the 15 year old midfielder on a tour of the Gunners’ training facilities.

However Anderlecht won the chase for the youngster, signing him in May 2010 and immediately inserting him in the under-19 side. With them, Praet was named as the best player of the 2011 AEGON Future Cup, a youth tournament that included Ajax and Bayern Munich. The following September he was handed a first start for Anderlecht, coming in the Belgian Cup against Lommel United.

He notched his first goal for the club in the next round against Rupel Bloom FC and at the end of October 2011, he would make his debut in the Belgian Pro League as a substitute against Lierse. His early promise was rewarded with a new contract in March 2012, which Praet extended in early 2014 to take him up to 2017.

From the start of the 2012/13 onwards, the midfielder would play a significant role in Anderlecht’s dominance of the Belgian top-flight, winning two straight titles and two straight Belgian Super Cups. In his time with Anderlecht, Praet netted 20 goals in 132 games; 8 coming in this most recent season as he blossomed into a dangerous attacking midfielder.

Having represented his country at all age groups from under-15 upwards, in November 2014 Praet received his first call up to the Belgium squad for matches with Iceland and Wales, making his debut in the 3-1 win over the former. His form in 2014 was rewarded in January with the Belgian Golden Shoe, the award given to the league’s best player across a calendar year.

With Praet’s stock up and Anderlecht having failed to make the Champions League for the first time in three years, the midfielder could finally be prized away with both Everton and Sevilla being quoted £10 million for the 21 year old.

Style, strengths and weaknesses

Mostly at home as a scheming midfielder operating between the lines, the midfielder Praet has often been likened to is Andres Iniesta. Not the strongest physically, Praet utilises his comfort on the ball and impressive balance to move away from markers. “Above all it’s important that I retain my qualities, which are speed and acceleration. Lionel Messi and Iniesta aren’t exactly big either…” the midfielder once said.

Praet possesses a gifted first touch and is capable of neatly guiding the ball away from challenges in crowded areas. The midfielder lacks pace but he does have an initial burst of powerful acceleration which, in combination with his sharp control and sense of balance, often allows him to progress forward with the ball firmly at his feet.

As an attacking midfielder who is often stationed out on the left but allowed to move into his favoured central position, it is what Praet does in the final third that counts and even though he is a clever mover of the ball, he is often criticised for choosing the safe option on too many occasions. He finished last season with 9 assists but given his impressive technique and vision, there is a feeling he can rack up many more if he played through balls to the attackers more frequently.

From his position on the left however, he can be a danger when latching onto through balls from others, often using well-timed darts across the defensive line. His use of the width of the pitch is suggestive of Praet’s intelligence and acute use of space. A quick run into the inner-right channel earned him an assist against Arsenal in the Champions League back in October.

Though mainly used as an offensive asset, Praet has had to adjust his game to the growing importance of defending from the front in modern football and can now commonly be seen tracking back to help his midfield once the opposition has broken the first wave of press.

Though he may not always be strong enough to win the ball back, he can get stuck in and harry his opponent into making errors in possession, leaving Praet in a good position to launch a counter attack.

What the future holds

With Anderlecht’s failure to make the Champions League forcing them into the sales of Mitrovic and Mbemba, Praet could follow as his recent signing to the Stellar Group agency- representatives of Gareth Bale and Ashley Cole- suggests the midfielder is trying to get into a position to negotiate a move away. Though having recouped in excess of £20 million through their sales, Anderlecht will be in no rush to relinquish Praet who still has two years to run on his present contract.

Real Sociedad and Zenit St Petersburg can be added to the list of clubs around Europe who are reportedly chasing Praet, but he is rumoured to be intent on a move to the Premier League to follow the many Belgians who have succeeded there.

While the 21 year old definitely has the skill and intelligence to replicate them, he could do with bulking up on his slight frame if he is to hold his own in a physical league.

Furthermore Praet will need to show he can take an individual grip on games and that he can guide them into his own direction, something which he doesn’t manage enough. That is likely to come as the Belgian matures but at the moment, in the currently inflated transfer market, there are far many worse options to spend £10 million on than Belgium’s latest midfield talent.

FIFA 16: The Leaked Real Madrid Player Ratings in the latest FIFA edition

This is a follow-up to my article on the leaked Barca player ratings in the next FIFA edition.

As we were saying, player ratings are a big deal in the FIFA franchise. Rated out of a maximum of 100, every player in the game is rated after closely analysing each attribute (pace, attacking, physical etc.) from the previous season.

Leaked images and info in FIFA history has been true almost every time. Fans record footage in conference like E3 or in webinars to get any hint on what is coming in the latest edition of FIFA.

A YouTuber quadecaX8 was there in E3 when EA Sports released the first gameplay of FIFA 16 between Real Madrid and Barcelona. He snapped a pic when the game was paused.

Source: http://imgur.com/KbAKBwr

Real Madrid had a pretty successful season until 2015. They lost their lead in La Liga and they got knocked out of the Champions League semi-finals in 2015. However, their top players continued to perform like Ronaldo who managed to score 50 goals and made tons of assists. The 2014 Ballon d’Or winner is expected to have a higher rating in FIFA 16 as he was only rated 92 in FIFA 15.

Let’s find out what Ronaldo’s rating and some of his teammates are:

Cristiano Ronaldo – 93

Gareth Bale – 87

Toni Kroos – 86

Luka Modric – 88

Marcelo – 82

Sergio Ramos – 87

Rafael Varane – 83

Dani Carvajal – 80

Asier Illarramendi - 80

Isco – 84

James Rodríguez – 87

Karim Benzema - 86

Jese -75

These are initial ratings , which could be altered before the game is released on the 25th of September. However, it is likely that Ronaldo’s rating will very much increase after a pretty successful season for him on an individual level.

Javier Manquillo: Ex-Liverpool loanee set for another loan sojourn at Marseille

Javier Manquillo was headed on loan to Marseille a year back. But Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool came in the fray for the youngster and soon after, news broke that the Reds had agreed a deal for a two year loan for the Atletico Madrid right back.

Not much was expected from the youngster initially, mainly because he was fairly unheard of. However, Manquillo was used by Rodgers regularly at the start of the season and he performed strikingly, surprising a lot of people. There were times last season when Manquillo was the only player performing consistently for the side, especially in the tempestuous opening half of the season.

But ironically, Rodgers shifted the formation to a three man back-line to get the best out of the remainder of the team and Manquillo became redundant as he couldn’t be used as a right wing-back. Many would argue that he wasn’t given much of a chance to prove whether or not he could, but when he was used, like he didn’t have that much attacking instinct in him to do justice to that role.

The Spaniard spent the remainder of the season on the bench and recently had the second year of his loan with Liverpool scrapped out.

Things aren’t so bad for the youngster though, as he is now reportedly headed to Marseille (there was significant interest from AS Roma as well), and under the tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa, who was said to be keen to acquire his services a year back as well.

Bielsa is getting a fine young player to work with as Manquillo has shown the qualities to become a solid right back.

What is especially incredible about the 21-year-old is the fact that his defensive abilities are pretty good, especially good in a day and age for the “modern full-back” where there is more focus on attack than on defence.

In the 10 games he played in the Premier League (started all), he averaged 3.8 successful tackles per 90 minutes in an average attempt of 4.5 tackles per 90 minutes. He also averaged 2.6 successful interceptions every 90 minutes. That is incredible for a full-back in today’s time because so much importance is given to the offensive side.

Brice Dja Djédjé, who primarily played as a right back for Bielsa last season, averaged 1.8 successful tackles every 90 minutes. These numbers can be misleading because Dja Djédjé played in the midfield in some games, as well as played 23 games more than Manquillo, but we can still form a vague picture of what Manquillo brings to a team.

The Spaniard has certain areas to improve, namely his offensive side. His crossing is not very good and for a full-back, it is essential.

At Marseille and under Bielsa, he will have the perfect opportunity to do the same. He will perhaps be a squad option initially, but the Argentinean is likely to give him enough opportunity to impress and he should look to nail down a starting spot in the team. Marseille have plenty of games with Europa League and cup competitions to play besides the league.

If the Spaniard wants to go back and play regularly for Atletico Madrid and get into the senior Spain side, he will need to do well on loan this season.

FIFA 16: The Leaked Barcelona Player Ratings in the latest FIFA edition

EA Sports’ latest installment of the FIFA series, FIFA 16, is due to hit stores worldwide on September 25 and with all the spare time between now and the release date, the fans are anxious to get some insight to what is coming and what they should expect in the latest FIFA edition.

Luckily, we have a leaked snapshot from the E3 conference which has leaked the player’s ratings of both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Below are reportedly the ratings to expect of Barca’s players in FIFA 16.

The leaked image (Source: http://imgur.com/gs03vbN)

We have always seen player ratings leaked in previous editions of FIFAs, but many of them did not match the actual rating when the game was released. What we are trying to say is, the ratings we saw in E3 may not have been the final ratings that we’ll see when the game is officially released to the public.

Barcelona had an amazing season winning the treble consisting of the Champions League, La Liga, and the Copa Del Rey. We will not be surprised that the ratings of the club’s top players and stars will increase in the upcoming edition of FIFA as the likes of Neymar, Messi and Suarez played a vital part in the team’s success. Let’s find out which Barcelona players had the most impressive jump in their ratings.

The reported FIFA 16 ratings:

Lionel Messi - 94

Neymar Jr – 87

Luis Suarez – 89

Andres Iniesta – 90

Sergio Busquets – 85

Ivan Rakitic – 83

Jordi Alba – 83

Javier Mascherano -83

Gerard Pique – 85

Dani Alves – 83

Claudio Bravo- 83

Pedro – 83

Rafinha– 78

Sergi Roberto- 76

Ratings define how rival counterparts perform in the game meaning that even in the digital level, people will be competing against Barcelona and Real Madrid. It is astonishing how a real life rivalry has sneaked into the gaming world to become one of the most played fixtures within the FIFA online community.
