Manchester United target Andre Gomes is ‘willing to leave’ according to reports.

TalkSport, via Don Balon, are reporting that Gomes is apparently open to leaving Spanish giants Barcelona after being unhappy with the game time he has been afforded at the Camp Nou.

It is suggested that he is targeting a transfer in the winter window and that Old Trafford could be his destination, with Jose Mourinho a keen admirer.

Spanish media are reporting that the Portugal international wants to find regular football with the World Cup returning this summer and will force a move if he has to.

The Verdict

One has to question whether Manchester United need Gomes, given their extensive squad depth and variety of options in the midfield.

There is no doubting his talent, despite a few indifferent years at Barcelona, but it would be unlikely that he would be given regular game-time.

Paul Pogba will be first choice when he returns from injury, alongside Nemanja Matic. Gomes would then have to see of competition from Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.

A move for Gomes would seem a little superfluous and the Red Devils would be best not pursuing this link in order to keep the squad harmony balanced.
