The Premier League season 2016/2017 has been a successful one for Jürgen Klopp and his side, Liverpool. The team managed to finish fourth in the league table and secured Champions League qualification.

With his tactics and passion, Klopp strove hard to bring the European nights back to Anfield. Now that Champions League qualifications are secured, Klopp can give a tough time to top Premier League and European teams which will be on the hunt for the best players in the summer transfer window.

The odds of Liverpool winning the Champions League are already pretty high, there are lots of betting sites offering premiership odds for the 2017/2018 season. Having looked around I’ve selected the Betvictor Liverpool odds as the best value so far.

The Reds still need to bolster their squad

Despite finishing fourth above Arsenal and Manchester United, everyone knows that Liverpool needs to sign big to strengthen a lot of areas and bring depth to the team. Moreover, as Liverpool will be playing many games next season, it’s important for them to sign more players.

The Kopites desperately need a solid centre back, left back, a box-to-box/holding midfielder and a quick winger. Liverpool fans also want another right back as an option to Nathaniel Clyne who is yet to make his mark in a red shirt.

Jürgen Klopp is expected to spend big during this summer transfer window and bring in a couple of top quality players. The club will have to push to make big signings if they want to compete with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Furthermore, if they make it to the main round of the Champions League, they must put on a good show there as well.

Who should they sign?

To be successful in the upcoming season, Liverpool needs a bigger and better squad for which they must bring in quality players this summer.

With so much speculation, it is hard to figure out who Liverpool can actually land and who they will not pursue in the summer window.

Here is a list of five players Liverpool should sign this summer along with the odds of actually signing them:

Ross Barkley

The young Scouse midfielder would be a very ideal signing for the Reds. Being born in Liverpool, Barkley would understand a lot about the club and would have a true passion about playing from his home city.

He currently plays for Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton, and The Toffee’s will do all they can to hold onto their home grown attacking midfielder, as they obviously wouldn’t want to lose him to their biggest rivals.

Furthermore, reports suggest that Philippe Coutinho is heavily wanted by Barcelona. Liverpool have now rejected two bids from the Spanish giants and the latest to be at a sum reported of €70m.

If Coutinho ends up leaving Anfield, Klopp should look to the powerful attacking midfielder to replace him.

It is too early to assume that he may join Liverpool, but the odds as of now are 10/1.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

After expressing his frustration, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is confused as he considers a move away from the Emirates this summer.

The highly lauded young Englishman is looking to get more first team opportunities which he has failed to receive at Arsenal during his six years’ time at the Emirates. The 23-year-old is heavily linked to Liverpool and reports suggest that the Merseyside club could land ‘The Ox’.

It is safe to say that if this move is finalised, it will be a perfect addition to the current Liverpool squad.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could prove to be a very useful player for any team provided that he stays fit throughout the season. Injury woes have declined his progress at both the club and national level.

The Ox is a versatile player and can be utilised as a winger on either of the flanks or as a central attacking midfielder. The only issue in pursuing Chamberlain is his injury record.

Young, fast, versatile and the directness required in creating an excellent impression on the German manager – Chamberlain has it all. In fact, he would fit very well into the system considering his experience in the Premier League and Champions League.

At £20 million, he may be a bargain buy for Liverpool. The odds for signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are 3/1.

Naby Keita

Another hot prospect in this transfer window is Naby Keita of RB Leipzig.

The central midfielder impressed many with his talent and brilliant performances last season. The 22-year-old is on Liverpool’s radar as a potential solution for their midfield problems. Naby Keita helped his club RB Leipzig to finish second in the Bundesliga.

The modern-day midfielder seems to be ideal for Jurgen Klopp and his system. Imagine Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Gini Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana, Coutinho, Marko Grujic and Naby Keita as the club’s midfield options.

Naby Keita managed to score eight goals and seven assists in a surprising and well deserved last campaign.

He has that central midfield vision, tackling and dribbling which could mean the difference between a victory and a loss. He is exactly what Liverpool has been missing for a very long time, ever since Xabi Alonso left for Real Madrid in 2009.

As of now, the reports coming in from Germany suggest that RB Leipzig is keen on retaining Naby Keita unless Liverpool bids £50 million or more.

The odds for landing Naby Keita at Anfield are 6/4.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Liverpool have been calling out for a word-class striker ever since Suarez left Anfield and the infamous ‘SAS’ got disassociated. Daniel Sturridge looks set to leave Liverpool, so it would be perfect timing for Klopp to bring in a striker that is proven to score goals season in, season out.

Furthermore, Aubameyang has been in great form recently.

He scored 43 goals in 49 appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season. This would make him an excellent addition to Liverpool’s squad, providing true goal scoring ability, which the squad has been lacking over the last few seasons.

The Gabonese goal poacher has recently told his current club that he wants to depart Germany, which could allow Liverpool a great chance of agreeing a fee with Dortmund and securing the player’s signature.

However, since Aubameyang has made his decision, a whole host of clubs have expressed their interest in signing him. The price tag on the player is £63,000,000, and while that seems like a hefty fee, goals are priceless to a team chasing the Premier League title.

The odds for Liverpool signing Salah are 7/2.

Gael Clichy

For quite a while, Anfield have been desperate for a sturdy left back. With competition from four fronts in the 2017/2018 campaign, the first thing Liverpool should consider is strengthening its defensive options.

Gael Clichy, who was released by City at the end of last season, could be a perfect option for Liverpool.

Clichy is Premier League proven, knows how to win titles and has played in several competitions with Manchester City and Arsenal in previous years. Hence, he could easily fill the vacant position as Klopp looks forward to disposing Alberto Moreno.

The best part is that Liverpool can pursue Clichy for free. The odds of signing this 31-year-old are 5/6.
