The maddening world of Chinese football continues.

This time it’s Diego Costa who has been the subject of a staggering bid, reports the Express.

The prolific Spanish striker has been the recipient of a £80 million bid from newly-promoted Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian.

According to several reports, the Chinese side also had a £50 million bid rejected in November; it appears as though they are willing to seriously splash the cash this time around, however.

Relentless

It is currently the off-season in China so the relentless purchasing of European talent will continue until February.

With the Chinese transfer record having already been broken four times this window, it is likely to be broken a fifth time.

Mind-numbing figures

Reports suggest Costa would receive a mind-numbing £420,000 a week – that’s 20% more than Oscar’s earnings and equates to around £25 million a year.

Manager Fabio Cannavaro, ex-World Cup winner, is leading the assault on Europe’s biggest assets and Costa’s head will likely be turned by the eye-watering figures on offer.

Move still unlikely

Yet, with Costa forming a fiery bond with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and the likelihood of a Premier League medal in the offering, it remains unlikely the forward would leave Stamford Bridge this window.
