Atletico Madrid’s goals were scored by Yannick Carrasco and a hat-trick from summer signing Kevin Gameiro, while Sergio Alvarez scored the lone goal for Sporting Gijon.
With his hat-trick, the France international striker takes his goal tally to nine goals in the Liga BBVA this season.
Because of their win, Atletico Madrid remain in the top four places in the Liga BBVA standings while Sporting Gijon’s woes continue as they remain in the drop zone in 18th position.
