In official news, Zenit Saint Petersburg have signed Branislav Ivanovic from Chelsea.
The 32 year old Serbia international joins the Russian giants on a two-and-a-half year deal on a free transfer. He was heavily mooted to leave after falling out of favor under Antonio Conte, who has preferred the likes of Victor Moses, Marcos Alonso, and Cesar Azpilicueta to the veteran defender.
Ivanovic arrived at Chelsea from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008 and has featured in 376 matches scoring 34 goals in the process for the Blues. During his 8 years, he also lifted the Premier League title on two occasions.
The Serbian expressed his delight at securing the move:
“”I am motivated and I think that I can play for many more seasons at the top level,” he told the club’s website.
“I can say that I am excited to be here and everything went smoothly.
“I have to get used to the team and get physically ready for the upcoming official and important matches.””
