In official news, Sunderland have signed free agent defender Joleon Lescott.

The former Everton and Manchester City defender signed on a contract until the end of the season.

As reported by The Telegraph:

“Sunderland have made an underwhelming first signing of the transfer window in the shape of former Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott.

Lescott has been training with the Black Cats for the last fortnight and the 34-year-old has done enough to earn a contract until the end of the season as Sunderland are severely stretched in defence.

With Papy Djilobodji set to serve a three game ban, after he was charged with violent conduct on Monday following a clash with West Bromwich Albion’s Darren Fletcher last weekend, Moyes had just one specialist centre-back, 35-year-old John O’Shea, available for selection as Lamine Kone is on international duty with Ivory Coast.”
