Everton began the 2016-17 season with a bang going unbeaten in the first six games, but their run came to a halt with a series of bad results that has drowned their hopes of clinching a Euro-competition spot this season.
As such, Everton boss Ronald Koeman has backed their arch-rivals Liverpool to win the title because of their winning form in the opening two months.
The Toffees manager has refused to allow local rivalries to drown his prediction that the Reds can endure the 38 games for a long-awaited English top-flight silverware as soccer lines weigh on his opinion.
Even though Ronald Koeman is the manager at Everton, he has tipped Liverpool to be secure their spot at the helm of the Premier League because of their impressive performances and energized players.
Sitting in pole position
Currently, the Reds sit at the top of the EPL table where their German manager Jurgen Klopp has guided them with a one-point lead over Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
Only eleven games have been played so far in the EPL and it might be too early to make such a prediction for the Reds since the remaining 27 games could draw mixed results.
The top of the table is still very tight and the fight to secure domestic control in England still requires some ample time.
Goals galore
On the other hand, Liverpool appear to be serious candidates for the title, with an attack-minded attitude that has delivered fine results in the past 11 games.
Jurgen Klopp has steered his team in the division to net the most number of goals so far, 30 in number and it seems they are still hungry for more.
Their top scorers, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have scored a combination of 16 goals in 11 games, a superb performance at the behest of their rivals.
Koeman admits that actually, he should desist from talking about title claims for their old arch-rivals, but it seems the Dutchman had to pour his heart out about the impressive performances the Reds have displayed so far across Stanley Park.
The charge at Anfield has been so pressing to ignore for the former Southampton manager, as he went ahead to tell ESPN that even though the EPL title race is still too early, Liverpool seem to be the favorites to win it so far.
In a deeper perspective, many people would criticize Koeman’s sentiments about Liverpool, who are long-time rivals of his Everton side.
However, it is evident that the you-never-walk-alone team have consistently played some fancy and rewarding football and they are worthy to stay at the top of the EPL standings.
Their forwards have scored some terrific goals for their tea this season and with such momentum, their success seems to blossom with time.
Their best opportunity
Unquestionably, Liverpool have the best opportunity to become the 2016-17 English Premier League champions, but the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are on their heels as well.
Currently, the gap between Liverpool and Everton is eight points, as the Reds are ranked first and the Toffees in seventh place.
Everton’s inconsistency last season called for a change of guard and Koeman is seeking alternative ways of refurbishing the team.
However, they have only won one away game so far in the Premier League and their return from the international break could make things better for them.
