Chelsea are targeting Stoke City’s Jack Butland, reports the Daily Mail.
Contract talks with Thibaut Courtois have stalled and the club are aware that he has attracted interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain, with the London club set to have a fight on their hands to persuade the Belgian that his future is at Stamford Bridge.
However, the club have made contingency plans and are set to pursue Butland.
The Verdict
Courtois is, perhaps, the second best keeper in the league – behind David de Gea – so it is no surprise he is wanted. The allure of Madrid or Paris may be too much for the Belgian and Chelsea are wise to make plans if he departs.
Butland has emerged as one of the most reliable and consistent keepers in the Premier League and is highly regarded. Butland rejected Chelsea in 2013, leaving Birmingham for Stoke in search of first team football, but should Courtois leave, one would imagine he would be no.1.
Accustomed to the nature of the league, a good shot-stopper and commander from the back, Chelsea would do well to bring him to London.
