Hello,
My name is Omar Almasri, a university student who has been an Arsenal fan ever since I started watching football. Being a Gunner, is something I’m proud of and cherish, they’re the team that makes me smile whenever I watch them play. Especially these days, where we are being surrounded by massacres in Libya, Yemen, Syria and other places in the Middle East, and of the course the tragic earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Arsenal is the team that takes my mind of these events whenever I watch them play their brilliant football.
But, Arsenal never was and never will be only remembered for their brilliant football, they are remembered for winning many trophies and being one of the greatest teams in the world. The last few years, have been unfortunately been an unsuccessful period for the club. 6, yes, 6 years without a trophy….. we Gunners have been suffering all this time. We’re an ambitious and highly successful club, and we should be winning trophies year by year, but the club has continually failed and have fallen short during the last 6 years….. the last being a shocking defeat to Birmingham. Arsenal should be fighting for trophies and not for to four finishes, no matter what. We’re a huge club and with the resources we have, we deserve trophies and success. The club unfortunately, have failed to address the issues within the team. When we call out for a top defender and holding midfielder, they get us a mediocre player who hasn’t been in the first team and no holding midfielder. I know that Wenger has huge belief in the squad and I commend him for that, but you’re just hurting the youngsters and the players by not augmenting the club with top, experienced players they can learn from and boost their morale. Remember when Arshavin came? The team’s spirits suddenly lifted and the atmosphere amongst the fans turned positive, after a rough start to the season. We are a top club, a huge club who shouldn’t be only fighting for the Premier League, but also for the Champions League.
Now, when I hear Wenger saying that we should be proud of being runners-up, it disgusts and sickens me. Being proud of being runners-up is for rising teams like Tottenham or Manchester City, but not for the Arsenal. Wenger needs to wake up and listen to the fans, listen to what we have to say and what we want. Wenger is a top manager, but he needs to wake up and accept his mistakes, and accept that must address the obvious issues within the team.
Mr. Wenger, this is a message to you… listen to your fans that have been hurting and aching for the past 6 years, we all love the club and we only want what’s best for it. If you don’t address the club’s issues and accept your mistakes, then au revoir Mr. Wenger.
