Mohamed Salah: The Records Broken by Liverpool’s Egyptian King

Mohamed Salah has been a relevation since his arrival at Liverpool last summer. The Egyptian has flabbergasted the footballing world with his astounding performances for club and country this season.

The 25-year-old has scored a total of 37 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon. His goalscoring tally of 29 in the Premier League is five ahead of Harry Kane’s, who has fallen behind the former Roma winger in the race for the Golden Boot.

With six more games to go in the league, Salah looks like breaking some major records including the one for most goals scored by a player in the league in a season. The ‘Chelsea reject’ is just three goals away from breaking the record jointly held by Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez (31 goals).

He is also in path to break Thierry Henry’s record for the most Premier League goals and assists combined in a season.

Most English top-tier goals scored in a season by a Liverpool player, most goals in a season across all competitions by a Liverpool player and most teams outscored by a single player are some of the records that Salah could make his before the end of the season.

However, the Liverpool attacker has already reached some stellar milestones. Let’s have a look at them.

1. Most left-footed goals

22 out of his 29 league goals have been scored with his left foot, taking over Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler’s record for the same.

Fowler previously held the record for scoring 19 goals with his left foot in the 1994/95 season. Salah now has three more than the Englishman.

The ex-Basel star has also surpassed the likes of Robin van Persie and Gareth Bale to reach the achievement.

2. Most goals in a season by a Liverpool player in the Premier League era

Another record previously held by Liverpool former number nine Fowler, was broken by Salah on Saturday.

Salah’s tally of 37 betters Fowler’s by just one goal. However, the 42-year-old scored his 36 from 53 games (1995/96), while Salah scored his 37 from just 41.

3. Most goals by a Liverpool player in debut season

Being the Liverpool player to score most goals in a season and the fact that it his debut season means that he now also holds the record for the most goals scored by a Reds player in a debut season.

Spanish striker Fernando Torres, aka El Nino, previously held the record for his 33 goals haul in the 2008/09 campaign.

4. Highest-scoring Egyptian

Before Salah rose to fame, Mido was the name that came to the minds of football fans when they thought about an Egyptian who shined in the game.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player used to fly the flag for his country in England when he used to ply his trade in the Premier League.

The 35-year-old scored a total of 22 goals in six seasons in the league and Salah has absolutely thrashed that record in just one season (not taking his stint with Chelsea into account).

Salah’s four-goal demolishing of Watford before the International break also made him the first Egyptian to score three or more goals in a single match.

While these are the records that the ‘Egyptian King’ has already broken, he is also on the verge of breaking two other significant records.

He has joined former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba as the African with most Premier League goals in a season (29 goals) and, also Cristiano Ronaldo and van Persie for the most number of games scored in a 38-match season (21 matches).

One more goal would see Salah becoming the holder of both these records as well and it is pretty certain that I will have to come at the end of the campaign to update this list.
