How midfielder’s medical confirmation may alter Arsenal’s defence against Chelsea

Aaron Ramsey’s reported switch to Juventus appears to be closer than earlier anticipated. The Welshman was tipped to remain at Arsenal till the end of the season before making the move to Italy.

However, the latest report from TalkSport suggests otherwise as the Gunners and the Old Lady are desperate to get the deal done this winter as he already had his medicals on Sunday.

Max Allegri believes the 28-year-old will provide depth in the middle of park, especially in the Champions League.

It is for this reason both parties have reached an agreement with the midfielder set for a medial in no distant time.

According to The Guardian, Ramsey has agreed to a five-year contract. The deal will be finalized after Juve’s Supercoppa Italiana clash against Milan on Wednesday. However, it appears as though there’s another mission behind the urgency of the deal.

It is being reported that Arsenal is hoping to sign defender Medhi Benatia in return. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Moroccan’s potential switch hinges on Ramsey.

Benatia has fallen down the perking order since Leonardo Bonucci’s return from AC Milan. The 31-year-old has been restricted to just five Serie A appearances this season.

It’s a stark contrast to last term where he made almost 30 league appearances last term. The Gunners are aiming to wrap up the deal before Saturday’s visit of Chelsea.

Unai Emery’s side have been dealt a huge blow at the back owing to injuries. The recent defeat at West Ham has further revealed the Gunners shortcomings in defence. Arsenal have conceded 32 goals – the joint worst of all teams in the top half.

Table toppers, Liverpool’s defence have been breached just 10 times thus far while Chelsea and Manchester City have seven more.

In Benatia, the Gunners will be endowed with an experienced rearguard with pedigree capable of shutting down the Blues’ toothless attack.
