REPORTS: Chelsea closing in on signing 50m-rated Juventus star

Antonio Conte has gone one step closer to bringing in Alex Sandro from Juventus.

In a faintly satirical report, The Guardian reference the Mirror as a source for the potential signature, with a fee mooted to be around £50 million.

The left-back was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last summer, but a deal never materialised, with Antonio Conte left ruing his hesitancy in the market.

The Verdict

Chelsea already possess one of the best left-backs in the league, in Marcos Alonso, but is said to favour the Spaniard in a centre-back position, where he played for Fiorentina on occasions.

With David Luiz’s frosty relationship with Conte not looking like thawing anytime soon, extra defensive cover would be welcome.

The power, pace and adventure Sandro boasts would see him adapt to the Premier League comfortably and he would be utilised in the wing-back roles.

Alonso at centre-back might present problems, though, and Conte would have to negotiate his transition with delicacy.
