5 Players Who Could Have a Big Impact at the World Cup

The World Cup this summer is unquestionably the biggest sporting event of 2018 as 32 nations battle it out for the top prize in Russia. This tournament gives the opportunity for so many players to make a name for themselves around the world.

Here is a look at five players who could have a big competition this summer.

Harry Kane

It is surely only a matter of time before Tottenham’s Harry Kane has a huge international tournament as his form in the Premier League has been extraordinary now for a number of years.

If England are to progress into the latter stages of the competition in Russia, they are going to need Kane to help them fire them there.

The Three Lions have been drawn with Belgium, Tunisia and Panama in the group stages so you’d expect them to make it through to the knockout stages at the very least with Kane in their side.

Timo Werner

Germany are the 9/2 favourites in the international football betting for the World Cup and it is easy to see why when you look at the quality and depth of their squad.

21-year-old Timeo Werner could be leading their line in Russia and as he looks to continue his excellent record for the national team where he has seven goals in ten appearances. The Leipzig forward has scored 35 goals in the last two seasons in the Bundesliga and is sure to get a move to one of the major clubs in Europe after the tournament.

With the likes of Leroy Sane, Mario Gotze and Mesut Ozil all supplying him with the ball, he is sure to be one of the contenders for the Golden Boot Award.

Malcom

After the embarrassment of losing 1-7 to Germany in the semifinal of the tournament four years ago, Brazil are on a recovery mission this summer.

With so many young new faces in their squad, the five-time winners are one of the teams fancied to go all the way. Bordeaux forward Malcom has yet to feature for his national team, however, the 20-year-old continues to impress in France and as a result could be set for a move to the Premier League in the summer, with Arsenal and Tottenham thought to be tracking his services.

If Malcom does make the squad for the World Cup, defenders will have their work cut out in the tournament as he is quick and knows how to beat a player.

Isco

One of the most influential players for Real Madrid at the back end of the season in their Champions League success was Isco.

The 25-year-old has now become a key player for club and country. In 2017, he scored five goals in seven appearances for Spain.

With many of the old Spanish brigade now retired from the national team, this World Cup is the opportunity for Isco to establish himself as the next great player like so many have before him.

Antoine Griezmann

Frenchman Antoine Griezmann was named the player of Euro 2016 following a fantastic campaign throughout the competition.

The only thing that was missing from the Atletico Madrid forward’s point of view was the trophy as his side were beaten in extra-time by Portugal. Griezmann will be hoping to take his game to another level at the World Cup where France will be looking for their star man to inspire them to go all the way this time around

The 2018 World Cup begins on June 14 when the hosts Russia face Saudi Arabia in the opening game of the competition.
