Manchester United put behind their defeat in the local derby with a hard-fought victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League.
United were everything but clinical under heavy downpour in that encounter, but the hosts did just enough to get over the line with a 1-0 win over the Cherries.
Going by recent events the goal came from an unlikely source, yet still the most deserving, as Romelu Lukaku rose above the Bournemouth defense with a thumping header; one that would eventually settle the tie.
Poor run ends
Romelu Lukaku has without question been on a pathetic run of form in the Premier League; none more so than his performance during the 2-1 loss in the Manchester derby.
Although United’s delivery in the final third has been questionable in the absence of Paul Pogba, Lukaku has repeatedly failed to bury opportunities ordinarily considered as more than half a chance.
Be that as it may, his decent goal scoring run against Bournemouth was something to build on, as the 24-year old scored his sixth goal in five matches against the Cherries.
Still in the title race
Manchester United’s ability to bounce back to winning ways on the backend of a disheartening loss in the derby is a resolute show of commitment to the cause.
Jose Mourinho’s charges may well adrift of leaders Manchester City, but their title credibility is still well founded.
Pogba’s return beckoning
Romelu Lukaku has been at his glittering best whenever Paul Pogba features for United.
As such, Big Rom has a lot to look forward during the brisk and busy Christmas period, as the midfield maestro served the last of his three-match ban against West Brom this past Sunday.
