Liverpool have missed out in their attempt to sign Fortuna Sittard star defender Perr Schuurs, according to the Daily Mirror.
The report emanates from the tabloid’s 11:41AM live transfer blog on Friday claiming that the 18-year-old has attracted interest from Merseyside, but has instead chosen to commit his long-term future in his native Holland.
The news outlet further claims that Schuurs has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Eredivisie giants Ajax.
Dutch news publication Voetbal International reported in May that the youngster had headed to Liverpool to undergo a trial as he prepared to leave Dutch second-tier side Fortuna.
It’s been a widely-known blow of Liverpool missing out in their attempt to sealing deals for Dutch defenders in recent times, as their nearly-but-not-quite pursuit of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton so publicly demonstrated.
Jurgen Klopp’s side invested a lot of time and effort in enticing Schuurs, a youngster so highly rated that he is a regular in the Dutch second tier donning the captain’s armband.
A powerful and commanding presence, he may well go on to achieve similar career as Van Dijk’s, and his education should certainly be aided by Ajax, renowned for their moulding of top-quality young talent.
