As the 2017/2018 season kicks off, there is newfound optimism and confidence around the theatre of dreams and Manchester united fans have good reason for this confidence.

Man Utd started this season on a winning note putting 4 past a strong West Ham side with new signings playing a key role in their win.

Romelu Lukaku got himself a double in his debut for the devils showing that he can carry the weight of expectation on his shoulders, while Nemanja Matic held down the midfield with a stunning display of defensive football with him being awarded man of the match.

Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial also contributed to the tally with a goal each, with Pogba taking on a daring shot from the edge of the box, slotting it carefully into the bottom right corner.

Transitional period

Man United fans have been waiting a long time to see such footballing prowess from the team with United finishing 6th last season with Jose Mourinho, 4th and 5th in the preceding seasons with Louis van Gaal , and 7th with infamous failure David Moyes the year before.

However these underwhelming performances are somewhat understandable as there was arguably a transitional period following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 after managing the club for over two and half decades.

There is an argument that after Alex Ferguson’s reign the following managers, especially David Moyes did not get enough time to stamp their authority on the players and team as a whole, with David Moyes being shown the door after a mere 10 months.

Early signs bode well

Of course it should not be forgotten that Man United won three trophies in the last season including the Europa League allowing them to qualify for the Champions league.

However It was still a disappointing season as a team of Man United’s calibre is expected to compete for the Champions League, every season but yet had to make do with the Europa League, not to mention the fact that they were nowhere near winning the Premier League.

But the early signs bode well for the red side of Manchester this year, however the fans must still be patient to see how the season pans out.
