Manchester United are plotting a sensational move for Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

Money makes the world go round

Having to deal with a shamefully paltry spend of £145 million in the summer, it is only fair that Jose starts to really splash the cash.

With Eric Bailly currently injured and set to feature in the African Cup of Nations after Christmas, Mourinho is desperately looking for defensive cover; especially when he has raised concerns surrounding the commitment of Chris Smalling, a player who has yet to feature for the Reds since his dismal display at Stamford Bridge.

Hefty price-tag

The Austrian defender would cost United no less than £40 million, and with Munich firmly against any negotiating it seems like Jose has a tough job on his hands if he is to prize Alaba away from Germany.

It is said Mourinho does not trust his current crop of defenders to get him a top-four finish this season, and who can blame him with the likes of Rojo and Jones?

Alaba is one of the best left-backs in the world, and has even proven that he can play in the center under Guardiola. He’d be a quality signing for any side and with a long career still ahead of him, Alaba would be worth the huge fee.

Would Alaba be a good signing for the Red Devils? Let us know your thoughts.
