German Gustavo Denis arrived to Europe with a sour feeling. Denis completed the dream of every player by reaching Europe in 2008, especially as he was playing for Napoli, a serious title contender who always competes for European places. However, it was obvious from the start how he wouldn’t get the preferred choice striker, as Ezequiel Lavezzi was living through a great moment for the Azzurri. He paired up with Marek Hamsik, and as the season moved on, he gained the appearance of a super-sub, coming on as Lavezzi’s substitute and scoring sometimes during the crucial stages of the game, but he usually scored when the result was already theirs. He gained some popularity among the fans, and resulted a nice option when the usual strikers couldn’t deliver, but as any striker would do, we went out and found another team to get his breaking opportunity as a starter.

He landed at Udinese last season, scoring a total of 13 goals with 63 appearances for Napoli, this time things went worse for him as this time, he found no space to get his chance, obviously by Capocannoniere captain Antonio Di Natale, the second striker was occupied as well by Alexis Sanchez, speedy striker who we all know where he landed next, with Catalan giants Barcelona. Denis looked hardly remembered by the Udine fans and his three goals did not resulted important for Udinese as theu already secured a win, thanks to Di Natale inmense force in attack. ‘El Tanque’ (Tank) as he is commonly named in Argentina finished the 2010-2011 season with 19 appearances and three sole goals.

So after two substitute seasons, everybody expected this was going to be the only thing he will reach in Europe, until Atalanta came, a team that looked interested in Argentine players as they signed Maximiliano Moralez, a winger who gave lots of convenient results for Argentinian club Velez, so they signed German on loan, and with few matches played this season, he has started matches for Atalanta, and responded excellently to this new phase in his career, and now he looks as one of the contenders to take the new capocannoniere title, with four goals already for Atalanta, putting him second on the goalscoring sheet.

His magnificent heading ability has become effective in Atalanta’s plays, using crosses to create danger plays, alongside Denis, Moralez brings the skill to their plays, shooting from outside and moving the ball around, Denis looks to find his new home in Atalanta and his arrival looks like a win win situation for both, as Atalanta get positive results when he appears for the team.
